Michigan State Spartans Mens Hockey Information
Michigan State University's (MSU) collegiate ice hockey team is known as the Michigan State Spartans. Playoff games are held at Michigan State University's Munn Ice Arena in East Lansing, Michigan. The Spartans have won the NCAA national title three times—in 1966, 1986, and 2007. On May 3, 2022, following Danton Cole's dismissal, Adam Nightingale was appointed head coach.
Michigan State is currently competing in the Big Ten Conference. The Michigan State University ice hockey program has won seven regular-season and eleven tournament championships. Along with three ACHA Division 2 championships, MSU has won twelve Great Lakes Invitational Championships. With nine trips to the Frozen Four, the Spartans' NCAA tournament attendance is at 23. The Michigan State Spartans claimed their third national title following a 3-1 victory over Boston College on April 7, 2007.
Since 1990, the teams have played a yearly match in Detroit, with Michigan serving as their usual foe. 2018, the game relocated from Joe Louis Arena to Little Caesars Arena. Adam Nightingale's appointment as head coach of Michigan State University was announced on May 3, 2022.
