Madison Mallards Information
The Madison Mallards is an American collegiate summer baseball team based in Madison, Wisconsin. The Northwoods League is where the team competes. The team's home field is Warner Park on Madison's Northside. Madison's minor league baseball history begins with the Madison Muskies' early success. The Muskies, an Oakland Athletics affiliate in the Midwest League, were competitive and established a loyal fan base in the years after their inception in 1982. Unfortunately, by 1993, the Muskies' popularity had waned, and they were losing money.
The Mallards made the playoffs in 2003 - 2006, 2008, 2013, 2015, and 2016. They've competed in the Northwoods League Championship Series four times, finishing second in 2005 and 2008. In 2004 and 2013, they were champions of the Northwoods League. Warner Park, which was opened in 1982, has a capacity of 6,750 people.
Big Top Baseball was founded in 2014 by the Mallards ownership group. Big Top Baseball is a leader in summer collegiate baseball in Wisconsin, with four Northwoods League franchises. The Madison Mallards, Wisconsin Rapids Rafters, Kenosha Kingfish, and Green Bay Bullfrogs are owned and operated by Big Top Baseball. The Mallards consistently lead all university summer baseball teams in attendance, averaging over 6,308 people per game in 2017 and 6,249 in 2018.
Former MLB players for the Mallards include Pete Alonso, Danny Burawa, Derek Fisher, J.R. Graham, John Hicks, Nico Hoerner, and Ryan Spilborghs.
