Lansing Lugnuts Information
The Lansing Lugnuts play Minor League Baseball in the Midwest League and are the Oakland Athletics' High-A affiliate. A Michigan state squad that calls Jackson Field home is based in Lansing. After owners Tom Dickson and Sherrie Myers pushed for the club to engage in a public-private partnership with the city to construct a new stadium, the Midwest League relocated to Lansing.
The City Council and Mayor David Hollister collaborated to entice the owners and construct the stadium to boost downtown's economy. Jackson Field, home of the Lugnuts, first welcomed fans in 1996. It is one of the country's most handicapped-accessible stadiums and can accommodate more than 10,000 spectators. In its first year, the franchise's record attendance was 538,326.
They were champions of the Midwest League in 1997 and 2003. In 2021, MLB reorganized the Minor Leagues, reclassifying the Lugnuts to the High-A Central. Following its reformation in 2021, the High-A Central changed its name to the Midwest League in 2022.
