Iowa State Cyclones Wrestling Information
Iowa State University (ISU) fields a Division I wrestling team known as the Iowa State Cyclones. With 45 top-four "Trophy" finishes, the Cyclones have won eight national championships and finished second seventeen times.
Kevin Dresser serves as the team's coach. Hilton Coliseum, located on the Iowa State University campus, is the Cyclones' home meetings site. The Hawkeyes' 1,100 dual victories on January 23, 2022, made them the second college wrestling school to accomplish this feat.
Iowa State wrestling can trace its roots back to Charles Mayser. "Uncle Charlie" was the athletic director, a coach for the wrestling team, and a coach for the baseball and football teams. In 1916, the first year of Cyclone wrestling, Mayser became an athletic staff member.
On April 30, 2009, Kevin Jackson was introduced as the head wrestling coach at Iowa State. Before losing wrestling as a varsity sport, he attended LSU and was named to the All-America team three times.
In 1987, after transferring to the program, he led the Iowa State Cyclones to their final NCAA title, a 30-3-1 record, and another All-America honor. Jackson also took home the gold medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona.
