Henderson Silver Knights Information
The Henderson Silver Knights is a professional ice hockey team headquartered in Henderson, Nevada, which commenced its operations during the American Hockey League (AHL) season of 2020–21. The Dollar Loan Center in Henderson, Nevada, is the site of the team's home games. The Las Vegas Golden Knights own and run the franchise.
In 1971, the team debuted in the broader Hampton Roads area of Norfolk, Virginia, as the Tidewater/Virginia Wings. After a two-year absence, the squad returned to action in Glens Falls, New York, and adopted the name Adirondack Red Wings. Before then, they were a Virginia-based affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings.
The Vegas Golden Knights announced the name change to the Henderson Silver Knights on May 28, 2020. Inspired by the state hymn "Home Means Nevada," the team's slogan is "Home Means Henderson," and the name is derived from Nevada's moniker, "The Silver State." Emanuel Viveiros was named the club's first head coach on August 31, 2020.
The 2021–22 season calendar dropped a bombshell: the Silver Knights will start their season earlier than anticipated in Henderson, with the inaugural home game at the brand-constructed Dollar Loan Center set for April 2, 2022. With a 2-0 series sweep, the Colorado Eagles advanced to the 2022 AHL Calder Cup Playoffs and knocked off the Silver Knights.
