Hampton Pirates Football Information
Hampton University's football team, the Hampton Pirates, competes in collegiate football. The Pirates represent the Colonial Athletic Association in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) (CAA). The squad was divided into many categories, including NCAA Division I-AA/FCS from 1995 to the present and NCAA Division II from 1950 to 1994. They participated in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association from 1912 to 1994, the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference from 1995 to 2017, the Independent from 2018, and the Big South Conference from 2019 to the present.
The Pirates have participated in the I-AA/FCS playoffs five times and have a 5-0 overall record. The Pirates had a 1-3 overall record and made three trips to the Division II playoffs. The Battle of the Bay and The Real HU (Howard-Hampton) are two of their all-time rivalries (Hampton-Norfolk State).
