Greenville Swamp Rabbits Information
The Greenville Swamp Rabbits are an ice hockey team in Greenville, South Carolina. Their home arena is the Bon Secours Wellness Arena in downtown Greenville. They play in the South Division of the Eastern Conference of the ECHL.
From 1988 (when the ECHL first began) until their 2010 move, the franchise was known as the Johnstown Chiefs. From 2010 until their 2015 rebranding as the Swamp Rabbits, they were known as the Greenville Road Warriors. Greenville has hosted two ECHL teams—the Greenville Growl (from 1998 to 2006) and the Swamp Rabbits (from 2007 onwards).
Spire Hockey South, a group affiliated with Spire Sports + Entertainment, purchased the franchise in May 2020. The transaction took place in April 2019. To maintain their proximity to the Checkers, the Swamp Rabbits allied with the NHL's Florida Panthers in the 2020–21 season, while the Hurricanes changed their AHL affiliation to the Chicago Wolves. On August 23, 2022, the Los Angeles Kings announced they would form a two-year partnership with the Swamp Rabbits.
