Frederick Keys Information
The Frederick Keys are a collegiate summer baseball club in the MLB Draft League. Frederick, Maryland, is home to the Keys. The franchise's name comes from the "Star-Spangled Banner" composed by Francis Scott Key, a resident of Frederick County. "Frank Key," an abbreviation for Francis Scott Key, became the team's mascot at the beginning of the 2011 baseball season.
After the Baltimore Orioles chose to relocate their Class A affiliate from Hagerstown, Maryland, the club was established in 1989. After promising to construct a stadium with 4,000 seats for the 1990 season, the city of Frederick persuaded the owners of the Hagerstown Suns to relocate the franchise to Frederick. The new stadium was still under construction in 1989, so the Keys played their home games at Babe Ruth League facility McCurdy Field.
After buying them from Maryland Baseball Holding, LLC, attain Sports and Entertainment won the Keys in January 2022. The venue for home games is Harry Grove Stadium. From 1989 to 2020, the Keys competed in Minor League Baseball as the Baltimore Orioles' Class A–Advanced club. This was before Major League Baseball restructured the minor leagues after the 2020 season.
