Fort Wayne Komets Information
The Fort Wayne Komets play ice hockey at the minor league level in the Eastern Conference. Fort Wayne, Indiana's Allen County War Memorial Coliseum is their home field. The Central Hockey League (CHL), the first International Hockey League (IHL), and the 2nd International Hockey League (UHL/IHL) are where this club had played before.
From 1952 to 1990, the original Komets team was a part of the International Hockey League's prior incarnation. After that, in 1990, the original IHL team became known as the Albany Choppers after relocating to Albany, New York.
The Komets connected with the Colorado Avalanche of the National Hockey League for the 2014–15 season, which allowed them to play in the same arena as the Avalanche's American Hockey League club, the Lake Erie Monsters.
In the 3rd, following a fruitful season and mutually beneficial cooperation, the Komets confirmed on July 21, 2015, that they would continue their affiliation with the Avalanche for the 2015–16 and 2016–17 seasons. It was with their new American Hockey League affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage.
The Komets announced a new affiliation arrangement for one year on August 21, 2018, with the NHL's Vegas Golden Knights and its AHL club, the Chicago Wolves. A later extension regarding the affiliation was made for the 2019–20 season. The relationship with the Golden Knights faded on May 19, 2022.
