Demolition derby is a motorsport event often held at county fairs and national events. Events often involve five or more drivers competing by purposefully smashing their automobiles into each other; however, the regulations differ from one event to the next. The winner is the last driver whose car can be started. American demolition derbies swiftly expanded to other Western countries.
Dustin Woods established Triple D Entertainment in 2021 and the King of Ohio event in Lima, Ohio, to elevate the sport to the level of major motorsports worldwide. Drivers are not aiming to outlast their opponents but rather to defeat each other in "the format" of the race. JT Hiltibran of Urbana, Ohio, received a record-breaking $26,5,000 in 2023. The year 2024 is shaping up to be exciting, with a potential prize pool of $50,000.
A collection of demolition drivers, promoters, and part vendors came together in 2024 to form the first commercial demolition derby organization. Our group uses the acronym "D.E.M.O." for Demolition Entertainment Motorsports Organization. The first official D.E.M.O. event will occur at Bristol Motor Speedway (Bristol, TN) in October 2024. More than $400,000 was up for grabs in this four-day "team" event.
