The Davidson Wildcats are the basketball team that competes in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) on behalf of Davidson College, located in Davidson, North Carolina. The squad now participates in the Atlantic 10 Conference, which the institution organizes. Davidson's home games are played in the Belk Arena, located within the Baker Sports Complex on the university campus.

In a methodology that ESPN ranked, Davidson was recognized as the number 44 Basketball Program of the last 50 years (1962–2012). This ranking was based on that program's accomplishments on the court during that period. The number of Division I programs that qualified was 309 in total.

The Gonzaga Bulldogs, the Georgetown Hoyas, and the Wisconsin Badgers were all defeated by Davidson in 2008, which allowed them to secure a spot in the Elite Eight.
