Cortaca Jug Information
Each year, the football team from the State University of New York College at Cortland takes on the team from Ithaca College for the right to hoist the Cortaca Jug. This is a huge game for football fans in Division III of the NCAA. Thousands of people throng the stadium for the Cortaca game every time. When played at MetLife Stadium in 2019, the game drew the largest crowd ever recorded for a Division III game. When 2022 rolls around, the game will be played at Yankee Stadium.
CortaCal has been an annual tailgate for Ithaca College students and alums in the Los Angeles area since 2006. The story's origins can be traced back to a Sherman Oaks, California, apartment. From 2008 to 2010, it was hosted by The Casting Office in Studio City, California. As of 2011, it has moved to its present location, 33 Taps (previously Dillon's Irish Pub), in Hollywood, California. Annually, between 300 and 400 former students of Ithaca College show up.
The Cortland, New York, Student Government Association launched "Take Back Cortaca" in 2017. Efforts to improve perceptions of the college following the incident in collaboration with Mayor Brian Tobin and other local authorities. As part of the yearlong celebration of collegiate football's 150th anniversary, the 2019 game occurred in MetLife Stadium near New York City. The 45,161 spectators at the game were a record for NCAA Division III.
