Colorado College Tigers Mens Hockey Information
The Colorado College Tigers men's ice hockey team is a Division I college ice hockey team in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The National Collegiate Hockey Conference is where the Tigers play their home games. Starting with the 2021 season, they moved their home games to Ed Robson Arena on the Colorado College campus in Colorado Springs.
Don Lucia took over as head coach of the Tigers in 1993. Under his leadership, the MacNaughton Cup, awarded annually to the WCHA regular season winner, was won by his squad in their inaugural season (1993–1994), This was the first Cup victory for Colorado College since 1957.
The construction of a new arena on campus, valued at $38 million, was announced by CC in 2018. In recognition of Edward J. Robson, a 1954 graduate of CC and a former hockey player for the Tigers, the arena bears his name. After a seventeen-year stint at the World Arena, the Tigers have moved to their new home rink.
Compared to World Arena, the new arena is much smaller, with a capacity of 3,407 instead of 6,007. In place of the Olympic-sized rink at the World Arena, it has an NHL-sized rink. Approximately 200 feet lower than the World Arena, Robson Arena is situated at an elevation of 6,050 feet above sea level.
Colorado College was originally anticipated to have it ready to play by 2020. Installing a parking structure and changing the arena's footprint inside its city block caused significant changes throughout the planning process, which in turn caused delays. The opening night of the 2021–22 season was at the arena.
