Charlotte Checkers Information
The Charlotte Checkers play minor league ice hockey in Charlotte, North Carolina. They are the premier minor league affiliate of the NHL's Florida Panthers and play in the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference of the AHL
At Bojangles' Coliseum, fans can catch the Checkers in action. There has been a Checkers franchise in the Eastern Conference from 1993 until the 2009–10 season ended, and the present organization is the third to have that moniker.
Not only was the 2018–19 season a highlight for Charlotte's hockey history, but it was also the Checkers' finest season to date as an AHL franchise. With 110 points, they won their first division title and were named league champions, earning the Macgregor Kilpatrick Trophy. After the SHL Checkers scored 101 points in 1974–75, no Charlotte hockey club had scored 100 points until this season.
They prevailed over the reigning champion Toronto Marlies in the Eastern Conference to reach their first Calder Cup final. They won their first American Hockey League championship and the eighth championship for a Charlotte-based club after a five-game series victory over the Chicago Wolves.
When the Panthers returned for the 2021-22 season, the Checkers were the principal affiliate, but they also committed to affiliate with the expansion Seattle Kraken that same year. While the Hurricanes were still linked with the Checkers, Ron Francis, the current Kraken general manager, was the team's employee.
