Cedar Rapids Kernels Information
The Cedar Rapids Kernels are the Minnesota Twins' High-A minor league baseball club. They play in the Midwest League. Veterans Memorial Stadium is their home field in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where they are based. Cedar Rapids Ball Club, Inc. is the owner of the Kernels.
The Kernels were reorganized into the High-A Central in 2021 as part of Major League Baseball's reorganization of Minor League Baseball. After a name change in 2021, the regional circuit that had previously been known as the High-A Central was renamed to the Midwest League in 2022.
Before the 1949 opening of the original Veterans Memorial Stadium, the team played its home games at Belden Hill Park. After the 2001 season, the old ballpark was torn down, but a referendum in August 2000 gave the green light to construct a new one next to it. In 2002, the Kernels broke their franchise attendance record with 196,066 fans at the newly constructed Veterans Memorial Stadium, which opened in time for the start of the season.
