Calgary Wranglers Information
The Calgary Wranglers are a professional ice hockey team based in Calgary. They play in the Pacific Division of the American Hockey League and are members of the Western Conference. The Wranglers first appeared in the 2022–23 American Hockey League season.
The Scotiabank Saddledome, where they play their home games, also serves as the venue for the Calgary Flames, an NHL team. Flames on May 23, 2022. This continued a pattern of recent years in which NHL clubs in Canada have relocated their AHL affiliates closer to the national capital, mainly to facilitate shorter notice calls for players.
The team resurrected the "Wranglers" name from a 1977–1987 WHL squad when it revealed its identity on August 2, 2022. In their inaugural game on October 16, 2022, the Coachella Valley Firebirds defeated the Wranglers 6-5. With 51 victories, the Wranglers won the regular season and the Macgregor Kilpatrick Trophy in their first competition season. Not bad, given how slowly they got going.
As a whole, their 51-17-4 record ranked sixth all-time in AHL play. In the 2023 Calder Cup playoffs, the Wranglers could not replicate their regular season success and lost in the third round, 3–2.
