Biloxi Breakers Information
The Mississippi Sea Wolves are a professional ice hockey club that calls the Mississippi Coast Coliseum their home. There is an ECHL team called the Sea Wolves. Established in 1996, the Sea Wolves enjoyed tremendous success over their ten seasons playing in the ECHL. They made the playoffs five times in their first seven seasons and won the Kelly Cup in 1999 after a best-of-seven series victory over the Richmond Renegades.
Hurricane Katrina damaged the Mississippi Coast Coliseum. Therefore, the club had to cease operations for the 2005–06 and 2006–07 seasons. They were able to do this via the ECHL's hardship clauses.
Hurricane Katrina severely damaged the team's home arena, flooding the locker rooms, offices, ice-making equipment, and two Zambonis. The Sea Wolves' return for the 2007–08 season was announced at the 2006–07 ECHL All-Star Game.
The Sea Wolves again suspended operations for the 2009–10 season on March 30, 2009, but a month later, management announced that the Mississippi Surge would retain professional hockey on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Throughout the 2009–10 and 2013–14 seasons, the Coast Coliseum served as the home field for the Surge.
The Federal Prospects Hockey League held three games in Biloxi as neutral sites in 2021. On December 30, Biloxi Pro Hockey announced the return of the Sea Wolves for 2022 after a total of 20,163 December ticket sales. The new squad's debut was in the 2022–23 FPHL season.
