Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo Information
Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo (BPIR) is the oldest Black rodeo in the United States and began in 1984. The rodeo is named after Bill Pickett, an African American cowboy who pioneered bulldogging. It celebrates black cowboys and cowgirls. The event has interesting activities such as bull riding, barrel racing, calf roping, and steer undecorating, where the abilities of Black rodeo players are displayed.
BPIR has turned into a national tour, coming to cities all over the nation. Throughout the years, it has turned into a means of honoring the history and contributions of Black cowboys, enabling the audiences to get to know about the significant contributions they made in the development of Western culture.
