The Army Black Knights, the men's ice hockey team representing the United States Military Academy, competes in Division I of the NCAA. West Point, New York's Tate Rink, is home to the Atlantic Hockey League's Black Knights. West Point's men's ice hockey team has been around since the 1903–04 season. The squad played their games outside until the Smith Rink was built in 1930.
The Black Knights have only ever won one conference championship—the Atlantic Hockey Regular Season Championship—during the 2007–08 season. The Knights' overall record that season was 19 wins, 14 defeats, and four ties, with a conference record of 17-8-3.
In 2006, with 3,100 spectators in Kingston, the game ended in a draw. The Army is now leading the Series 39-29-7. From the years following WWII until 2007, the game was played nonstop. Regular season scheduling conflicts forced the postponement of Saturday, February 10, 2007, rivalry game at Tate Arena in West Point, New York. Instead, the Paladins will spend three days in New York, interacting with the West Point cadets through practice, games, and social events.
