Arizona State Sun Devils Mens Hockey Information
The Arizona State Sun Devils men's ice hockey team is the college team that represents Arizona State University. Mullett Arena in Tempe hosts home games for it. Hockey started at Arizona State in the fall of 1983 when ASU students gathered at Tower Ice Plaza in Central Phoenix to play pick-up hockey among one another.
In only its third season as a Division I team, Arizona State won an at-large invite to the NCAA tournament in the 2018–19 season. This is the first time in school history. The Quinnipiac Bobcats routed them in the regional semifinal. Starting in the 2024–2025 season, the Sun Devils declared on July 5, 2023, that they would join the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC). They formally joined the league on July 1, 2024.
The Sun Devils first participated in the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA). From 2015 until 2023, the team competed as an independent in NCAA Division I before signing with the NCHC in 2024. Additionally, Arizona State maintains WCHL Club Level teams, the WCHL D-1 Sun Devils, and the PAC-8 D-2 Sun Devils, respectively.
