Appalachian State Mountaineers Football Information
The Appalachian State Mountaineers football team, based in Boone, North Carolina, participates in NCAA Division I as the official professional American football team for Appalachian State University. Since 2014, the Mountaineers have been members of the FBS and the Sun Belt Conference.
Kidd Brewer Stadium, where Appalachian plays its home games, was named after the legendary coach. He led the 1937 team to a perfect regular season record and a 206-0 regular season scoring advantage.
From its inception in 1978 through 2013, the Mountaineers played in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). Between 2005 and 2007, they won three consecutive national titles, becoming the first FCS team to accomplish it since the playoffs were instituted in 1978.
After spending its first three years in the FBS in the FCS, Appalachian State jumped to the FBS in 2014 and has since been ranked in the AP Top 25 in its first three FBS seasons (2018, 2019, 2020). After winning their fifth consecutive bowl game, third consecutive Sun Belt Championship, and statement victory over both UNC and USC in non-conference meetings at Chapel Hill and Columbia, the Mountaineers ended the 2019 season with a final AP poll ranking of No. 19 (and Coaches No. 18).
Clark led the Mountaineers to a 17-14 victory over No. 6 Texas A&M on September 10, 2022. This was the team's second victory over a team ranked in the top 10. Thanks to this win, App State will host College GameDay for the first time in history.
