Zopa Information
Zopa is an indie rock band from New York that was formed by chance, shaped by time, buoyed by friendship, and finished with a profound faith in its creation. This is made possible by the skills of three musicians: guitarist/lead singer Michael Imperioli, bassist/keyboardist/vocalist/producer Elijah Amitin, and drummer/vocalist Olmo Tighe. Michael Imperioli, the lead singer of Zopa and Emmy winner for his role as Christopher Moltisanti in The Sopranos, discussed the band's latest album, La Dolce Vita.
Zopa launched in 2006 but has been inactive since 2013. At least till 2021. From 2012 until this year, Imperioli called California home. After his return to New York, the band has been doing little more than writing, rehearsing, and performing. But it all began in 2006 when he was eight years old and the drummer, Olmo, was 38 (Elijah and Olmo were brothers). At the age of 25, he appeared alongside Imperioli in a film.
Olmo portrayed a younger version of New York-based artist David Wojnarowicz, who was active in the '80s. In the film, Michael Tighe, Olmo's brother, played David, a teenage boy. Imperioli hadn't seen his younger brother, Michael, since he was eight, but when the two reconnected at a party years later, he learned that Michael played the drums and was eager to form a new band.
