Zella Day Information
Zella Day Kerr (March 13, 1995) is an American musician, singer, and songwriter. She was born in Pinetop-Lakeside, Arizona. Day began making music in her early teens, and her debut album, Powered by Love, was independently released in 2009. Following the album's success, Day worked as a songwriter for BMG Publishing Group before signing with Hollywood Records as an artist. Day's major-label debut, Kicker, was released in 2015 and was preceded by the singles "Hypnotic" and "East of Eden."
Day promoted the album with appearances in magazines including Vogue, Playboy, and The Huffington Post and on televised shows like Late Night with Seth Meyers and Conan. Day appeared at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in 2016.
Day's debut album, Powered by Love, was self-released in 2009. One of her family friends helped fund and record the album. BMG Publishing noticed Powered by Love's first success and arranged for her to write sessions with John Paul White of The Civil Wars and Meghan Trainor.
Day's first extended play, Cynics vs. Dreamers, was self-released in 2012. Wax Ltd's Wally Gagel and Xandy Barry produced the record. "Simple Song" was used in the movie Tooth Fairy 2. Her EP was released on September 23, 2014. It was described by Atwood magazine as an "intangible tapestry of sound and raw emotion, blanketing the pop, alternative, and folk genres."
