Youth Music Monterey Information
Throughout Monterey County, Youth Music Monterey County provides services like two orchestras, a chamber music program, a brass ensemble, a woodwind ensemble, and in-school teaching and performance opportunities. Roughly a hundred young musicians make up our Junior Youth and Honors Orchestras, which are conducted by Maestro Danko Druko, a professional conductor.
On May 18, 1988, the Youth Orchestra of Monterey County (est. 1981) and the Summer Music Monterey County program merged to form the nonprofit organization Youth Music Monterey County (est. 1965). Performers in the YMMC Honors Orchestra can participate in one of three chamber music programs that provide a platform to promote the arts and give back to the community. The Chamber Players, the Brass Ensemble, and the Woodwind Ensemble are part of this series.
YMMC recognizes the value of presenting works by under-represented composers, instrumentalists, and vocalists so that they can serve as role models for students and audiences. We're determined to increase the diversity of our audience by including more women, people of color, and people of all gender identities in our performances.
