Young Frankenstein Information
Young Frankenstein is a 1974 American comedy horror film directed by Mel Brooks. Brooks and Gene Wilder contributed to the script. Wilder also played the title character, a descendant of the notorious Dr. Victor Frankenstein. Peter Boyle depicted the creature. In particular, the several Frankenstein and The Modern Prometheus films made by Universal Pictures in the 1930s satirize the standard horror film formula adapted from Mary Shelley's 1818 novel.
Kenneth Strickfaden mostly created props for the 1931 film Frankenstein. Brooks shot the picture in black and white, a rarity in the 1970s, and used 1930s-style opening titles and scene transitions like iris outs, wipes, and fades to black to help create the mood of the older movies. Brooks' long-time composer, John Morris, also provides a period score for the movie.
Young Frankenstein is a critical and financial triumph. Regarding reader rankings, it is ranked No. 28 on Total Film magazine's "List of the 50 Comedy Films of All Time," No. 13 on the American Film Institute's 100 Funniest American Films, and No. 56 on Bravo's "100 Funniest Movies."
