Yola - Singer Information
Yolanda Quartey (1983) is an English musician, songwriter, and singer known as Yola or Yola Carter. She is from Bristol, England, and her music is classified as country, roots rock, and Americana. Yola was born into a low-income family, and because of this, she was discouraged from pursuing music. However, music was her passion, and nothing could keep that away from her; finally, in 2016, Yola released her first solo EP entitled Orphan Offering.
Walk Through Fire was the debut album by Yola, released in February 2019. The album was released on Dan Auerbach’s Easy Eye Sound label. Her debut album’s title referred to both; an abusive relationship from which she ran away and a fierce fire that caused damage to her home. The album was called “an extraordinary record” by AllMusic. Yola made her American television debut on March 23, 2019, on the Saturday Sessions segment by CBS This Morning.
Yola also performed at the Newport Folk Festival 2019 and served as an unofficial member of The Highwomen. She also worked with Phantom Limb, Bugz in the Attic, and Will Young. Yola’s other notable discographies include a single “I Don’t Wanna Lie” 2019 and “Stop Crying Your Heart Out” 2020.
Yola earned four Grammy nominations in 2020 and won two UK Americana Awards. She also won UK Americana Awards in 2017 and a nomination for Americana Music Honors & Awards 2019.
