YOB Information
Yob (or YOB) is a doom metal band that was founded in 1996 in Eugene, Oregon. The current lineup of the band is Aaron Rieseberg, singer and guitarist Mike Scheidt, and drummer Travis Foster. Music from the band is defined as stoner metal, doom metal, and post-metal. Past members include Lowell Iles, Greg Ocon, Gabe Morley, and Isamu Sato. In 1999, the group members submitted their self-titled demo to Stonerrock.com. Later, in 2001, the band recorded its first full-length record for 12th Records in Spokane, Washington, entitled Elaborations of Carbon.
YOB signed a recording contract with Abstract Sounds in 2002. Catharsis was their first album on this label, followed by a full-length release, The Illusion of Motion, in 2004. The fourth album The Unreal Never Lived in 2005. Metal Blade Records released both albums. After almost ten years, there was an announcement by Scheidt in a press release on January 10, 2006, that YOB was disbanding. Scheidt and Foster later reformed the band in 2008, and they released The Great Cessation on Profound Lore Records in 2009.
YOB performed at the 2010 Roadburn Festival in the Netherlands and toured the United States extensively, alongside some well-known bands including Dove, Orange Goblin, Origin, Exhumed, The Locust, Soylent Green, Uphill Battle, Playing Enemy, and Will Haven.
A few of the other notable albums by the band are Atma, Clearing the Path to Ascend, Our Raw Heart, along with a split album entitled Label Showcase - Profound Lore Records. Live at Roadburn 2010 and The Unreal Never Lived: Live at Roadburn 2012 are the two live albums by YOB.
