Ying Fang Information
Chinese opera singer Ying Fang is a principal singer at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City and has won several competitions, including the Guangdong Singing Competition in China (2009), the Gerda Lissner International Vocal Competition (2013), and the Lincoln Center Segal Award (2015). Her work has been broadcast on Great Performances at the Met and shown in cinemas as part of the Metropolitan Opera Live in HD series.
Ying, born in Ningbo, China, studied under Jingzu Bian at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, where she received a bachelor's degree in music. She continued her education with Edith Bers at the Juilliard School in New York City, where she received her master's degree and artist certificate before joining the Lindemann Young Artist Development Program at The Metropolitan Opera.
At the Juilliard Opera Center, she sang the title role in Gluck's Iphigénie en Aulide (2015), Zerlina in Mozart's Don Giovanni (2012), Fanny in Rossini's La cambiale di matrimonio (2012), the Spirit of the Boy in Britten's Curlew River (2012), and Susanna in Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro (2015).
