Wyatt Espalin Information
Wyatt Espalin's first album, Songwriter/Singer (2015), was recorded in East Tennessee, with the Ocoee River as a backdrop and North Georgia on the horizon. Since the age of eight, when he began performing on the music barn stage his grandpa had built at the campsite where he was raised in Hiawassee, Georgia, Espalin's love for music was clear to anybody who saw him perform. It was common knowledge that he and his brother Matt were "The Fiddling Brothers." Espalin was starting, while Matt had already hung up his fiddle and bow after high school.
After picking up a guitar and developing a penchant for songwriting, he teamed up with his pal Cobi Ferguson to establish the successful Americana duet Trees Leave. Their distinctive sound, achieved by fusing electric guitar with traditional bluegrass influences, won them many new fans. After years of traveling and the release of two critically acclaimed albums (Run (2008) and The Gospel of Hurt (2010)), Cobi and Espalin decided it was time to settle down, and Espalin sought out a fresh environment conducive to producing songs with a more reflective tone. His sojourn on the Ocoee River for his sabbatical so began in solitude.
Espalin started writing his first album's songs while working as a raft guide and caring for his sick granddad. His music has gotten much attention after winning the New Song Songwriting Competition at 2014's prestigious L.E.A.F. festival. Additionally, he has been a finalist in three different songwriting competitions: Eddie's Attic Open Mic Shootout (2014, 2015), Rocky Mountain Folks Festival Songwriting Competition (2014, 2019), and the Chris Austin Songwriting Competition at Merlefest (2009, 2019).
