Westchester Symphonic Winds Information
In 2021-2022, the Westchester Symphonic Winds will celebrate its 34th season as a professional adult community wind and percussion orchestra. Its mission is to hone a community of music lovers by providing an unforgettable musical experience for individuals of all ages while fostering national pride and the members' sense of identity and development.
Rachel Eckhaus, Robert LaPorta, and the group's initial director, James D. Wayne, who led the band from 1988 to 2004, are responsible for establishing the ensemble. From 2005 to 2008, Dr. Luis Fernando Jimenez led the orchestra. The 20th Anniversary Gala Concert in 2008 was Curt Ebersole's first opportunity to lead the orchestra. He did such a great job he was asked to continue as Conductor and Music Director. To name just a few, the likes of Dr. Mallory Thompson, Dr. John Lynch, Dr. Tom McCauley, Dr. Shelley Axelson, Dr. Travis Cross, and Dr. Joseph Greco have all been on hand as guest conductors and physicians since 2008.
The orchestra has performed at benefit concerts for numerous organizations over the years, such as the Food Bank for Westchester, Student Assistance Services, Children's Brain Tumor Foundation, Irvington Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Rotary Club of Briarcliff Manor, Emergency Ecumenical Food Pantry, Family Services of Westchester, Yonkers Arts Education, and many more.
