Wendy Moten Information
Wendy Moten (November 22, 1964) is an American jazz singer. She was born in Memphis, Tennessee. She went to Memphis's Overton High School, where she sang in the school choir led by Lulah M. Hedgeman. At the tender age of 16, she triumphed in a singing competition at the Mid-South Fair and was hired as a regional amusement park performer. She studied music business at what was then Memphis State University and is now the University of Memphis' Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music.
She was working in a Memphis studio on a jingle when promotion man Dick Williams heard her. She first found success when she was asked to perform at a benefit performance alongside Michael Bolton; after signing with EMI, she recorded her debut album under her name in 1992 and went on tour as Bolton's opening act. Although it peaked at #55 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1993, Moten's "Come In Out of the Rain" was a No. 5 adult contemporary smash, and it even made it into the Top 10 of the UK Singles Chart, reaching #8 in 1994. The follow-up single "So Close to Love" flopped in the United States but reached number 35 in the UK singles chart. The play "Mama I Want to Sing" was her off-Broadway debut.
Moten sang harmony vocals for Tim McGraw and Faith Hill's Soul2Soul II Tour in 2006. From 2005 to 2018, she remained on the road with Tim and Faith. She lent her background vocals to Bonnie Tyler's Rocks and Honey (2013) album. From 2014 to 2016, she traveled as a backup singer for Martina McBride.
