Waymores Outlaws Information
Waymore's Outlaws is an American country music band. The current lineup of the group consists of Tommy Townsend, Fred Newell, and Jerry Bridges. The band first gained prominence as Waylon Jennings' backing band and recording band. When Jennings relocated to Phoenix, Arizona, in 1961, he recruited Jerry Gropp on guitar and Richie Albright on drums to form a band. After playing at JD's, the band began to gain a following in the area.
Jennings was signed to a deal by RCA Records in 1965. Nashville, at the time, was more accustomed to using studio musicians as opposed to a performer's backup band. Therefore, the conservative rules of the label's producers prevented him from recording with the Waylors. He renegotiated his contract with RCA in 1972, and as a result, Honky Tonk Heroes features the Waylors for the first time on a studio album. The band grew over the subsequent decade, and they continued supporting Jennings until he died in 2002.
Since their reformation in 2008, the band has been fronted by Tommy Townsend and has played shows both under their name and as backing musicians for Albright's namesake, the son of Waylon and Jessi Colter, known as "Shooter" Jennings. Waylon's son and Richie Albright's namesake, Waylon Albright "Shooter" Jennings, joined the Outlaws on tour for the first time in 2014.
