Voces8, styled VOCES8, is one of the a cappella octets that originated from the United Kingdom. This Cappella octet is composed of women as sopranos, and men singing the other voice parts. The music genre of Voces8 is mainly a cappella music type. This British vocal ensemble was initially founded in 2003, and reunited in 2005 by brothers Barnaby Smith and Paul. They had two countertenors, two tenors, two sopranos, a baritone, and a bass. This group is famous for having a diverse repertoire, which includes traditional folk song, classic jazz, pop, early English, and European Renaissance music, as well as their arrangements.
In 2015, the ensemble members of Voces8 were Barnaby Smith and Chris Wardle (countertenor), Andrea Haines, and Emily Dickens (soprano), Paul Smith (bass-baritone), Sam Dressel and Oliver Vincent (tenor), and Dingle Yandell (bass). They all performed with four hit guest singers in a concert at Wigmore Hall in London. Voces8 has also appeared internationally, touring, especially in Asia, Europe, and North America.
Voces8 has recorded with Decca and Signum, as well as their own Voces8 Records label. On their 15th anniversary celebrations in 2020, Voces8 released a megaproject entitled After Silence, comprising four digital EPs. A few of the other notable recordings by the group are; Bach’s Motets, with the Senesino Players (2010), Brahms, Bruckner, Reger (2011), A Cappella Songbook (2012, paperback), Christmas (2012, Signum), Where I sleep (2014, Decca), A Cappella Songbook 2 (Paperback 2018), VOCES8 EP (2019), Enchanted Isle (2019), and a few more.
Voces8 pursue music education as well. It is highly supported by the Voces8 Foundation. The group successfully reaches up to 40, 000 individuals per year in regular masterclasses and workshops.
