Utah Grizzlies Information
In ice hockey, the Utah Grizzlies play as a professional club in the Eastern Conference. The Maverik Center in West Valley City, Utah, is where they host their home baseball games. In 1981, the present-day Utah Grizzlies were part of the Central Hockey League in Nashville, Tennessee, as the Nashville South Stars.
In 1983, Henry Brabham assumed ownership of the team and, in the middle of the season, moved them to Vinton, Virginia, rebranding them as the Virginia Lancers. After that, in 1988, Brabham and the Lancers were among the first members of the ECHL.
The E Center became home to the dormant Eastern Conference (ECHL) club after David Elmore and Donna Tuttle acquired their rights after the American Hockey League (AHL) version of the Grizzlies ceased play.
Their NHL affiliate, the Calgary Flames, switched allegiances to the Alaska Aces before the 2013–14 season. Tim Branham, the Anaheim Ducks' next head coach and general manager, and the team announced the deal on August 7, 2013, for three years. While playing for the Ducks, the Grizzlies reached the playoffs every year. During the 2015–16 season, the team and the organization reached a multi-year agreement.
For the first time in eleven years, the Grizzlies did not make the playoffs after the 2017–18 season. When that happened, the Colorado Eagles—their ECHL rival—became an affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche in the AHL and then the American Hockey League.
