Umek Information
DJ Umek (May 16, 1976) is a Slovenian dance music DJ and producer. Umek began DJing in 1993 at 17. In Slovenia, he was an early adopter of electronic music. Consumer Recreation, which he co-founded with Valentino Kanzyani, and Recycled Loops released records in 1999. Around 2001, Umek rose to prominence among European techno fans thanks to his lightning-fast mixing abilities and upbeat DJ sets.
His writing voice shifted slightly in the subsequent years. His music was released on Earresistible Musick (2001) and Astrodisco (2006). His 2006 single, "Posing As Me," was a huge success in his home country of Slovenia. In 2007, he collaborated with Croatian singer and lyricist Ana Mari on the video-supported project Carbon Occasions and also produced music for the label 1605 Records.
Dan Elektronike (Electronica Day) was a concert he planned for his birthday on May 16. In 2007, DJ Magazine placed him at #29 on its list of the world's 100 best DJs. Some say Umek is among the world's top 10 Techno DJs. Until 2015, he was on the prestigious DJ Mag Top 100 DJs chart.
