UB40 Information

UB40 is a pop and reggae band from Birmingham, England, established in 1978. In addition to their massive worldwide success, the band has had over 50 hits on the UK Hits chart. Their discography includes four Best Reggae Album nominations at the Grammys and one for Best British Group at the Brits in 1984.

Singles "Red Red Wine" and "Can't Help Falling in Love" both peaked at No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100, while the group's debut single "Food for Thought" was also a smash. These two songs, along with the band's covers of "I Got You Babe" and "Breakfast in Bed" (with Chrissie Hynde), reached the top of the UK Singles Chart.

In the UK, their two best-selling albums, 1983's Labour of Love and 1993's Promises and Lies, peaked at No. 1. With over 70 million records sold, several chart places, and an extensive touring schedule, UB40 is undeniably one of the most commercially successful reggae artists ever.

Throughout their 30-year career, they have headlined Jamaica's Reggae Sunsplash music event, played sold-out concerts worldwide, and brought reggae to new continents, including South America and Russia.

The band's performance of "Red Red Wine" was part of the August 2022 Commonwealth Games Closing Ceremony, which also included performances by Musical Youth, Panjabi MC, Dexys, Ozzy Osbourne, Apache Indian, and Musical Youth, all hailing from the Birmingham and West Midlands region.
