Tyla Information
Tyla (January 30, 2002) is the stage name of South African singer and composer Tyla Laura Seethal, who was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. After her 2019 debut song, "Getting Late," featuring Kooldrink, achieved domestic popularity, the Johannesburg native and lifelong resident signed with Epic Records in 2021.
Before Tyla's single "Been Thinking" reached the top of the Billboard Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay and Rhythmic Airplay charts in 2023, she made her public debut at the Dolce & Gabbana afterparty during Milan Fashion Week. After releasing the single "Water" in 2023, Tyla shot to stardom worldwide. It peaked at No. 10 in sixteen nations, including the U.S. and U.K.
Tyla released the single "Girl Next Door" in May of 2023, which featured the contributions of the Nigerian singer Ayra Starr. When "Water" was released in 2024, it was the first song by a South African soloist to make it onto the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the U.S. It was also the first song to win the Best African Music Performance at the Grammys.
Her self-titled first album will be released on March 22, 2024. Additionally, Tyla has been nominated for other awards, including two South African Music Awards, one MOBO, one Soul Train Music Award, and a BRIT Award.
