Tucson Roadrunners Information
For the 2016–17 season, the Tucson Roadrunners of the American Hockey League (AHL) got their ice hockey careers underway. The team hails from Tucson, Arizona, and plays home games at the Tucson Convention Center Arena. They are associated with the Arizona Coyotes of the National Hockey League. Due to their superior record during the suspension and subsequent cancellation of play, the Roadrunners were granted the Pacific division title.
Steve Potvin was elevated to head coach of the Roadrunners, and head coach Mike Varady became an assistant coach with the Coyotes before the 2020-21 season was postponed. Varady took over as head coach of the Roadrunners again before the 2021-22 season.
Potvin was rechristened head coach for the 2022–23 season, while Varady left for the Detroit Red Wings as an assistant coach after the season. With 64 regular-season meetings between the two clubs as of the 2022–23 season, the Roadrunners have played more games against any opponent than any other team. The current record between the two teams is 31-30-2-1 for the Roadrunners, with a 4-2-2-0 series victory for the Roadrunners in the 2022–23 season.
