Tré Burt joined Kelsey Waldon as the only two musicians to sign to John Prine's Oh Boy Records in the past 15 years when he was signed in 2019. Oh Boy reissued Tré Burt's first album, Caught It From The Rye, in 2020. Burt perfected his literary lyricism and lo-fi, rootsy style while busking in San Francisco and exploring the world for ideas, and these qualities shine through on his debut album.
He shares the same poet's eye for detail, surgeon's sense of narrative accuracy, and folk singer's innate aptitude for a timeless tune as his label colleague and musical hero, John Prine. Songwriters take note: Caught It From The Rye is an urgent dispatch from a major new voice. According to NPR, Tré improves with each release, making him "even more nuanced, empathic, and razor-sharp as a storyteller and musical philosopher" on his latest album, You, Yeah, You.
The album, which was recorded in North Carolina with producer Brad Cook (Bon Iver, Waxahatchee, Nathaniel Rateliff), is structured like a boxing match, with each song serving as a rallying cry to keep fighting rather than give in to anxiety and exhaustion. In You, Yeah, You, Tré Burt presents a body of work that, taken as a whole, demonstrates the growing context in which his voice feels at home. Burt performed at Newport Folk Festival for the first time that summer and went on tour that same year with Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats and Shakey Graves.
