Tommy Castro Information
Tommy Castro (April 15, 1955) is an American rock, blues, and R&B guitarist. He was born in San Jose, California. At the tender age of ten, Castro picked up a guitar and found inspiration in the sounds of electric blues, Chicago blues, West Coast blues, soul, rock & roll of the '60s, and Southern rock. His music has always been a fusion of his many musical influences. He mentions Eric Clapton, Elvin Bishop, Mike Bloomfield, B.B. King, and Buddy Guy.
May 2010 was a banner year for Castro as he took home many Blues Music Awards from The Blues Foundation, including Best Male Blues Artist, Best Contemporary Blues Album, Best B.B. King Entertainer, and Best Band. He reunited with the Painkillers' Randy McDonald on bass, Mike Emerson on keyboards, and Bowen Brown on drums for the September 29, 2017, release of Stompin' Ground (Alligator).
Several artists appeared on Castro's prior albums, including Charlie Musselwhite (harp and vocals on "Live Every Day"), Mike Zito (guitar and vocals on "Rock Bottom"), Danielle Nicole (vocals on "Soul Shake"), and David Hidalgo (guitar and vocals on "Them Changes" from Los Lobos). Castro was honored with the prestigious 'B.B. King Entertainer of the Year' title for the second year in 2023 by the Blues Music Awards.
