Tia Maria Sillers is an American songwriter. She has penned the lyrics and music for over 40 singles across several genres. Her credits include the hits "I Hope You Dance" by Lee Ann Womack and "Blue on Black" by Kenny Wayne Shepherd. Innumerable movies, TV series, and commercials have used music by Sillers. Sillers' upbringing was marked by numerous relocations from their original home in Stamford, Connecticut, to their current location in Nashville, Tennessee, where they settled in about 1980.
While a Father Ryan High School student, Tia began frequenting the Bluebird Cafe for the Writer's Night performances. At a young age, she was greatly influenced by authors like Don Schlitz and Alan Shamblin. Sellers began composing music while studying at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In 1991, she signed her first publishing deal with Tom Collins Music, thanks to the Nashville Broadcast Music Inc. (BMI) office on Music Row. Her debut single, recorded with George Ducas, was released on Liberty Records. She became well-known after the success of her top-10 hit "Lipstick Promises."
The Lee Ann Womack song "I Hope You Dance" was co-written by Sillers and Mark D. Sanders. It was a Top 20 pop smash and a No. 1 country hit for Lee Ann Womack, earning her a Grammy for "Best Country Song" and a Song of the Year nomination. Also, in 2000, the song won Song of the Year honors at the Country Music Association and the Academy of Country Music. The song topped Billboard's Country Airplay chart for five weeks.
