Thomas Rhett Akins Jr. (March 30, 1990) is an American country singer and songwriter. He was born in Valdosta, Georgia. In middle school, Rhett took up the drums and eventually performed onstage with his dad. He used to be in a band called "The High Heeled Flip Flops" back when he was in high school. For his undergraduate degree, Rhett attended Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee. At age 20, he decided to pursue a music career instead of continuing his education. Then, after approaching him about a publishing deal, he chose Big Machine Label Group.
Featuring Reba McEntire, Hillary Scott, Chris Tomlin, and Keith Urban, Rhett's 2020 stand-alone single "Be a Light" was a powerhouse collaboration. The artist has pledged 100% of their earnings from the song to the MusiCares Relief Fund. At the 2020 Academy of Country Music Awards, Rhett was named Entertainer of the Year. His co-writing of Dallas Smith's upcoming (August 2020) single "Don't Need the Whiskey" is notable.
After his big breakout, Rhett kept climbing the charts with hits like “Crash and Burn,” “T-Shirt,” “Marry Me,” and “Life Changes.” Each album has shown his style and growth as a singer and songwriter.
