Thievery Corporation Information

Thievery Corporation is an American duo that is based on an electronic music theme. The pair consists of Eric Hilton and Rob Garza. Their musical style mixes the Indian Classical, Acid Jazz, Reggae, Dub, Brazillian Music, Middle Eastern Music, Electronica, Bossa Nova, and Hip Hop.

The Thievery Corporation was formed in the summer of 1995. The duo started with their record label “Eighteenth Street Lounge Music,” in which they decided to record all the Jazz, Dub, Bossa Nova music by intermixing them at a studio.

In 2001, they released “Sounds From The Verve Hi-Fi.” It was a compilation of the 1960s - 1970s Verve Records ‘best of’ that includes Latin Jazz, Jazz, and Bossa Nova from the artists named; Wes Montgomery, Luiz Bonfa, Cal Tjader, Brasil ‘66, and Sergio Mendes. The duo released “The Richest Man in Babylon” on their ESL label in 2002 featuring performances by vocalists Loulou, Pam Bricker, and Emiliana Torrini.

In 2004, the Thievery Corporation released “The Cosmic Game,” which has a more psychedelic sound than “The Richest Man In Babylon.” In this album, they featured high-profile guest singers such as Wayne Coyne of The Flaming Lips, Perry Farrell, and David Byrne.

Ras Puma joined and toured with Thievery Corporation in 2006, and since then, they are touring together. They released their album “Radio Retaliation” on September 23, 2008. The collection also got nominated for the Grammy Awards for recording the best packaging.
