The War and Treaty Information
The War and Treaty is an American duo of husband and wife named Michael Trotter Jr. and Tanya Trotter. In 2014, Trotter & (Blount) Trotter was established in Albion, Michigan. 2017, after much debate, they settled on The War and Treaty as their new band name. As the two began to argue, Tanya yelled, "This isn't war, Michael, so let's come to some sort of treaty here." Love Affair, a duet album by Tanya Blount and Michael Trotter Jr., was released in 2016.
The pair, known as The War and Treaty, dropped the single "Hi Ho" that same year. Chris Estey, writing for Paste, called "Hi Ho" "the breakout soul hit." The War and Treaty's sophomore studio album, Hearts Town, was released via Rounder Records on September 25, 2020. They sang "Pride (In the Name of Love)" by U2 with Dierks Bentley at the 56th Academy of Country Music Awards on April 18, 2021.
In May 2022, the band inked a record deal with Universal Music Group Nashville. On the same day, they unexpectedly released their second EP, Blank Page; they also played a cover of "It's Only Rock 'n Roll (But I Like It)" at the 56th Annual Country Music Association Awards with Brothers Osborne. On March 10, 2023, they dropped their first album for a major label titled Lover's Game.
