The Schwag Information
The Schwag is a band founded in 1991, and since then, has performed over 3,000 concerts across the US. This group of polished musicians is highly dedicated to continuing the vibe and music of the Grateful Dead. The Schwag averages 150 shows annually, and the members own a working song list of over 200 songs from the Jerry Garcia Band (JGB) catalog and Grateful Dead. Jimmy Tebeau is the bandleader who has also toured the country as the bass player for JGB for four years.
The band members for full Schwag shows are Jason & Travis & Kang from String Cheese Incident, Merl Saunders, Melvin Seals, Devon Allman (Gregg’s son), and Johnnie Johnson. The Schwag has opened for various notable acts so far, such as Marshall Tucker Band, Leftover Salmon, String Cheese Incident, Sammy Hagar, Little Feat, and Railroad Earth.
The band also hosted its own Schwagstock music festivals attended by crowds, with an average of 5,000 people per event. The venue Camp Zoe in Missouri was owned by the Schwag, where many festivals were hosted. Some of the notable bands which opened for The Schwag at these festivals include Keller Williams, Big Brother & the Holding Company, George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic, and New Riders of the Purple Sage.
Over the years, the Schwag played with many guest musicians such as Bill Nershi from String Cheese Incident, Chuck Berry, Drew Emmitt and Vince Herman from Leftover Salmon, Fred Tacket from Little Feat, Butch Trucks from The Allman Brothers Band, Mike Gordon from Phish, and Vince Welnick from The Grateful Dead.
