The Road Hammers is a country rock band. The current group lineup consists of Chris Byrne, Clayton Bellamy, and Jason McCoy.Lead vocalist and guitarist Jason McCoy, a multiple-time Canadian Country Music Association male vocalist of the year winner, established The Road Hammers as a project in 2004. He claimed the concept was to perform trucker music and teamed up with two other artists who shared his musical philosophy: the Newfoundlander Chris Byrne on bass and the country-rocker Clayton Bellamy, whose father is a truck driver. The Road Hammers were the focus of a reality show with the same name on Country Music Television in Canada, in addition to recording their self-titled album.
The Road Hammers, an album released in 2005, was praised for its Southern rock style and classic song covers. On the Canadian country albums chart, it debuted at No. 1. Del Reeves' 1965 number-one smash "Girl on the Billboard," Jerry Reed's "East Bound and Down," and Little Feat's "Willin'" were all covered on the album. The Road Hammers surged to the top of the Canadian country charts after the album's release; four singles made the top 10 in 2005 and 2006, and the group was nominated for six CCMA Awards, winning Group or Duo of the Year.
