Reno, Nevada, is home to a world-class symphony ensemble called the Reno Philharmonic Ensemble (Reno Phil). As of late September, you can enjoy it until early April. The current musical director is Laura Jackson. Founded in 1969 under the baton of current music director Laura Jackson, the orchestra now features over 60 accomplished performers. They play at interior and outdoor locations in Reno, Carson Valley, and Lake Tahoe.
From September until April, audiences can enjoy the highly-rated Classix Series. From the holiday staple Spirit of the Season to the July 4th celebration in Genoa, the Lake Tahoe Music Festival, and the always-sold-out Pops on the River, the orchestra offers over ten specialty performances annually. In 1969, the orchestra gave its first public concert. After the tryout season of 2008-2009, Laura Jackson was selected to take on the role of music director.
The thoroughness of the two-year search audition, the high quality of the applicants, the innovative use of technology to involve the local community, and the rise in ticket sales earned national acclaim. Ms. Jackson's previous position was as Associate Conductor of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. There are over 60 live concerts by the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra each year, with over 50,000 people in attendance.
