The Pineapple Thief is a British rock band. The current lineup of the group consists of Bruce Soord (vocals, guitars), Jon Sykes (bass, vocals), Steve Kitch (keyboards), and Gavin Harrison (drums). The Pineapple Thief was founded in 1999 by Bruce Soord as a platform for his music. Soord's debut album, Abducting the Unicorn, was published on Cyclops Records, and it sparked enough attention to build a small but devoted fan following. Soord returned to the Dining Room studios to work on LP 137, his second. Several large labels became interested, forcing a delay in the release, which took over two years following the debut.
Following the album's release in 2002, Bruce decided to form a band to bring his music to a wider audience. Former university bandmate Jon Sykes played bass, Wayne Higgins played guitars, Matt O'Leary played keyboards, and Keith Harrison played drums in the band. They released 12 Stories Down as a full band in 2004, but Bruce Soord was unsatisfied with the final sound and had parts of the tracks re-recorded, remixed, and modified before the release of 10 Stories Down in 2005. Following Matt O'Leary's departure, Steve Kitch (who co-produced and mixed 10 Stories Down) joined the band to play keyboards.
