The Kingdom Choir Information
Gospel music from London's The Kingdom Choir is brought to you by Karen Gibson, a workshop leader and conductor who started the group. After over 20 years of singing together, the choir received worldwide attention when asked to sing at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding. They performed a gospel cover of Ben E. King's "Stand by Me" on May 19, 2018. Gibson, the conductor, has been called "Britain's godmother of the gospel" by the British press.
They sang it so well that it topped the Billboard Hot Gospel Songs chart in the United States. After their impressive performance, Sony offered the choir a recording contract. The choir published its first album on October 26, 2018, titled Stand by Me, featuring 15 songs of love and inspiration. There are 14 cover versions and one original song titled "Chases." As part of the 2019 MLB London Series, the choir will perform "The Star-Spangled Banner" before the opening game in June 2019.
They performed with Marco Mengoni in his rendition of "Let It Be" at the 73rd Sanremo Music Festival in Italy in February 2023. Under the guise of the Ascension Choir, members of the Kingdom Choir sang Debbie Wiseman's a cappella "Alleluia (O Sing Praises)" at Charles III and Camilla's coronation in May 2023.
