The Kentucky Headhunters Information
The Kentucky Headhunters are an American Southern rock and country-rock band founded in 1968 and originated from Edmonton, Kentucky. The group is also known as Itchy Brother, and its music is defined as country rock and southern rock. The band’s current lineup consists of Greg Martin – lead guitar, background vocals; Doug Phelps – bass guitar, background vocals; Fred Young – drums, background vocals; and Richard Young – rhythm guitar, lead, and background vocals. The band has faced many breakups and reunions thus far.
The Kentucky Headhunters began performing in 1986. They used to play twice a month on the 90-minute Chitlin’ Show, a radio program on WLOC (Munfordville, Kentucky). The band released a demo in 1989 entitled Pickin’ on Nashville, as The Kentucky Headhunters’ debut album. Four singles were included in the album, and all of them reached the top 40 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks.
Some of the other hit singles by the Kentucky Headhunters include “Walk Softly on This Heart of Mine,” “Dumas Walker,” “Oh Lonesome Me,” and “Rock ‘n’ Roll Angel.” Their demo album also earned the band a Grammy Award and the Academy of Country Music (ACM).
Some of the most notable studio albums released by the Kentucky Headhunters include Electric Barnyard (1991), Rave On!! (1993), Stompin’ Grounds (1997), Songs from the Grass String Ranch (2000), Big Boss Man (2005), Dixie Lullabies (2011), and On Safari (2016).
